This article will provide best practices and a checklist for all the requirements to display non-English character sets in a PDF document.

This install is required, even on an Asian computer.

  • The chosen font must contain the characters that are to be displayed. You can verify this step by checking the character map on your operating system: Windows, macOS, or Linux.

  • Some foreign characters may have a larger vertical size than English characters. If the characters need to be displayed in a table, the size of the cells must be set accordingly.

At the time of this writing, there is a known issue within Acrobat dealing with listboxes and Chinese characters. More details can be found here.
