Curvature analysis analysis color maps the curvature of a surface based on the curvature analysis used (Gaussian, Mean, Maximum) to aid in design and manufacturing preparation.

titleCurvature Type

Select a curvature analysis type that is suitable to the task being accomplished.

Gaussian

The Gaussian curvature analysis aids in identifying anomalies in a curved surface and to help determine how flat it may be.

The Gaussian curvature is the product of the maximum and minimum normal curvature of a given surface section.

Mean

The mean curvature analysis also helps in identifying anomalies in a surface based on the curvature but shows a color mapping of the average of the minimum and maximum values.

The Mean curvature is the average of the maximum and minimum normal curvature of a given surface section.

Maximum

The maximum curvature analysis may help in milling and machining tooling with toolpath planning and toll selection based on the curvature color mapping.

The Maximum curvature maps the maximum absolute value of the minimum and maximum curvatures within a surface section.

titleColoring Options

Set color options to govern how the curvature analysis will look and feel.

Minimum and Maximum Values

SpinFire Ultimate attempts to default the minimum and maximum values to reasonable values based on the model and the curvature type set however one may need to adjust these based on their own needs.

Edit the values directly by clicking and entering values or use the up/down arrows.

Gradient

Check the Gradient check box to get a more diverse dispersion of color across the analysis.

Editing Colors

To change each color swatch:

  1. Click on the color.
  2. Select the new color in the Color dialog box.
  3. Click OK.
